Nervous about the dentist? You’re not alone
By Dr Priya Nair · 30 May 2026 · 5 min read

If the thought of a dental appointment makes your stomach turn, you’re in very good company. A large share of adults feel some level of dental anxiety, and for some it’s enough to put visits off for years. We see it every week, and we take it seriously.
Where the nerves usually come from
For most people, the anxiety isn’t really about pain — it’s about not knowing what’s going to happen, or not feeling in control. A bad experience years ago can stick around, too. Naming that is the first step, because most of it can be worked around.
What actually helps
We explain everything as we go, so there are no surprises. You can agree a simple “stop” signal with us — raise your hand and we pause, no questions asked. We keep appointments unhurried, and we’re happy to start with something small, like a chat and a look, before any treatment.
Telling us how you’re feeling when you book makes a big difference — it means we can plan the visit around you from the start. There’s no judgement here, only a team that’s used to helping people feel at ease.
If you’ve been putting off a visit, a phone call is a low-pressure first step. We can talk it through before you even come in.
